Why businesses should keep it clear!

If you want to make your brand more accessible to customers, colleagues and investors, then it’s important to present your message clearly and concisely. I’ve talked a lot about online copywriting on this blog to date, but what about all that printed content that you distribute at meetings?manager-308474_1280

Whether someone works alongside you every day, or they’re interested in finding out more about your business, presenting them with clear and insightful information is key. Everyone has an attention span and no matter who’s reading your presentations or business documents, if it’s written in plain English and is to the point, then you’re going to grab and indeed, retain their attention much more easily.

So, what can you do to improve clarity and be concise in your business documents?

  1. Use headings and sub-headings to break up text.
  2. Use bullet points and diagrams.
  3. Include pictures and graphics with brief descriptions and captions.
  4. Write shorter sentences.
  5. Use white space – don’t crowd the page!
  6. Insert paragraphs and indent quotes or stand-out information.graph-163712_1280
  7. Mark up key information in bold or italics.
  8. Spell-check and proofread!
  9. Edit.
  10. Write in plain English – that is to say, remove all jargon!

On the other hand, write a rough draft of what you need, and then hand it over to a professional copywriter and editor to perfect it for you. 🙂
