I mainly use this blog to chat about copywriting tips and so on and so forth, but as a business myself, I also attend various events, so from time to time, I’ll share my experiences of these with you! It also demonstrates another way of blogging and as I’ve said before, it helps to keep content mixed up and to write about what your business has been getting up to.
North East Digital Champion (NEDC)
So, last week I drove down to Larne for the launch of the North East Digital Champion report. If you don’t know what this is, the project was an initiative part-funded by Invest NI and the European Regional Development Fund, along with the local NI councils, which aimed to improve business owners’ use of digital media.
The team also researched the current level of digital media use in Northern Ireland and the speed of our broadband connections. Suffice it to say, in many areas, this needs to be drastically improved if businesses are to derive the most benefit from the internet.
Our venue was Willowbank Business Park in Larne, and I enjoyed my first exhibit as a business, which I think went well! I also reflected on my own participation in the North East Digital Champion programme, which included attending a workshop event in Coleraine a few months ago, followed by a mentoring session with Andy Hill of DooKoo Digital, in Ballycastle. The advice I received from this subsequently helped me to refine my own use of digital media.
As a copywriter, I know how important it is to have a strong online presence and how businesses need to ensure that their content is engaging and updated on a regular basis. What the NEDC programme did for me, was to highlight those areas I need to focus on – such as using LinkedIn more efficiently, and using apps such as Google analytics more often, as well as embracing new media like Periscope.
All in all, I enjoyed my morning of networking, as well as hearing from other businesses about how they benefitted from the NEDC programme. Digital media is only going to become more important as time goes on, so it’s important to use it to your advantage…
