Day two of NaPoWriMo and the prompt is… ‘a poem that tells a lie’.
Cake
I sit and watch
the clock.
The tick, tock drives me insane
They say my brain has crumbled
like cake.
I used to bake – scones, tarts
cake.
Now I do nothing
but stare.
I am aware, but they don’t see
that inside – here – I’m still me.
My mouth won’t work as I want it to,
tongue sticks to the roof
like glue.
I tear it away and say my piece
well, I used to at least.
Now I am silent – quiet and still
When words come wrong
they assume you’re ill.
